Design That’s Deeply Personal
At BrightHive Organizing and Design, creating a space is about more than just style—it’s about building a home around the way you live. Whether that means maximizing a tiny room or creating a cozy nook for game night, their work starts with one thing: you.
As custom furniture makers, this design philosophy really resonates with us! We recently caught up with BrightHive founder and CEO, Brooke Alley, and left completely inspired by her team’s approach: designing homes that support real life, not just picture-perfect moments (though those happen, too!).
“We have long, meaningful conversations with our clients,” Alley says. We want to understand how they live, what matters to them, what they love.”

A Local Approach to Interior Design in Portland
BrightHive’s approach is both holistic and deeply collaborative. Their projects combine organizing & decluttering, personalized design, and memorabilia display—a trio of services that allows them to create functional and meaningful interiors.
They don’t just style a space—they help you edit, prioritize, and reimagine it from the inside out.
Think of it as emotional decluttering meets intentional design. That gallery wall? It tells your story. That drawer you’ve been avoiding? It finally gets handled. It’s about beauty and function, thoughtfully layered together.
“We want to create spaces that are both functional and full of heart,” says Alley. “Not just styled for Instagram, but lived in with joy.”
Their Portland roots also matter. Instead of relying on mass-market retailers, the team often turns to local Portland furniture stores (like Perch!) to bring their design vision to life.

Why a Custom Sofa and Chair Made All the Difference
Take their recent North Commercial Street project: a small living room that needed to wear many hats—movie zone, game-night hub, and a comfortable, conversation space for guests.
Enter: custom upholstered furniture designed in partnership with Perch.
“Our clients had specific needs for comfort, size, and use,” explains Alley. “No off-the-shelf sofa was going to check every box.”
So BrightHive and the Perch team got to work designing a custom couch and a petite arm chair tailored to the space—down to the inch.

Made-to-Measure Comfort
Working with a local Portland store (us!) instead of a big box store meant BrightHive could fine-tune every detail: cushion firmness, seat depth, fabric selection, and dimensions to fit the exact layout of the room.
And the result? “The clients love it,” says Alley. “We wanted them to walk into the room and say, ‘This is amazing’ every time—and now they do.”
Why Buy a Custom Sofa in Portland?
For BrightHive, the decision to shop local isn’t just about convenience—it’s about quality, service, and collaboration.
“You’re not going to get this level of attention and personalization from Crate & Barrel or West Elm,” Alley says. “Working with Perch allowed us to make little last-minute changes that ensured each piece was truly right.”
