One of the absolute joys of running Perch is getting to team up with talented designers around Portland. And one of our very favorite collaborations? Working with interior designer Annie Wise and her wonderful team at Wise Design.
The Wise Design crew has a rare talent: they can make a room look like a magazine spread and feel like the coziest, most practical space to live in. What makes working with them so special is the way they start every project: by listening closely to their clients.
They want to know how a family really uses their home—whether it’s hosting Friday night dinners with friends from the neighborhood, wrangling toddlers, or sharing the sofa with their dogs. From there, the team creates a design direction centered around making spaces that balance beauty and function.
This is the stage where we usually get to jump in. A sofa anchors a living room, and Annie and her team are very skilled at helping clients choose one that sets the tone for the whole space. Together, we work on making a sofa that looks gorgeous and sits comfortably for the client. We talk through things like: How deep should the couch be for lounging? What are the exact dimensions that will work in this space? Which cushions will keep their shape? Which fabrics will hold up to grape juice spills or dirty dog paws? The result is always a sofa that looks amazing, feels comfy, and holds up to real life—precisely the type of furniture we love to make.
We also really admire how Wise Design makes the design process feel approachable and never intimidating (seriously, the entire team is so, so nice!). Even if you’ve never worked with a designer before, Annie and her team will make you feel at ease because they are so down-to-earth and focused on creating a space tailored to your life. Their 90-Minute Design Consults are the perfect way to dip your toe into the world of interior design—it’s like having your most stylish friend walk through your home and say, “Here’s what will make this work.”
